Let's Be Proactive During the Pandemic

Updated: Mar 19, 2020

Hello. I’m Mathieu Powell and I'm writing to you from Victoria, BC on Vancouver Island where we are just starting to see some of the effects of COVID-19. Today, Monday, March 16th, there are 8 confirmed cases across the Island Health region. Across the province of British Columbia, we have 30 cases.

While that doesn’t seem like a lot, we only have to look at Italy to see where this is headed. Two weeks before the number of cases exploded and overwhelmed their health care system, there were only a handful of reported infections.

We'd like to reassure people both in our own community and around the world, that while COVID-19 is a serious pandemic, especially to older adults – we can't panic and lose our heads about this. If we do, this will cause much more mayhem and disruption to our economy, our social fabric and our own individual health. Our immune systems are less effective though periods of high anxiety which makes us more susceptible to any disease, not just the coronavirus.

Angela and I decided the best thing we could do is gather data and information from the world leaders in epidemiology and governance and create a factual, easy to read book. Quality and accurate information is essential in preparing to survive and thrive in any challenge.

We wrote this book in the interest of good health, safety and financial security for you and your family. You can support us in our efforts by purchasing our online book.

We are not medical experts. We are researchers and writers with an avid interest in serving older adults in our community.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to email us and we’ll do our best to answer your questions or point you to the right resource. We’ll be updating our book as we receive more information and we’ll deliver the updates to your email inbox at no additional charge.

To your health and happiness.

Angela Provost and Mathieu Powell
